A Tale of Resilience: From Wheelchair to High-End Coffee Chain Owner

Welcome to Vietnam Untold! Today we will tell you a tale of resilience and determination. Trung Hau, a young man from Vietnam who defied the odds, is inspiring others with his remarkable journey.

From a young age, Trung Hau encountered challenges, including a fever at age five that left him bedridden and unable to move. Nonetheless, his indomitable determination prevailed. Starting first grade at eight years old, and for nine consecutive years, he became an outstanding student.

Unfortunately, health issues disrupted his progress, ultimately leading to quitting school during 11th grade and a profound sense of despair. But destiny had a different plan for Hau.

Hau’s life took a turn when his family bought him a computer. Through the internet, he discovered a gateway to new knowledge and develop his own potential.

Hau found his passion for the coffee industry. He’s philosophy became clear: circumstances do not define a person. It is the inner values that shape their worth. With this mindset, Hau aimed to make a difference in his community.

In 2016, Hau took a leap of faith and established the brand “Ngồi Cafe”, meaning “seating in coffee shop” in Cu Chi, investing over $19,000. With unique coffee recipes and a focus on targeting students as his main customer base, Hau’s coffee shop quickly became a success. Within the first nine months, he recouped his investment, generating daily revenues of $200.

But challenges were never far away. COVID-19 pandemic struck, putting the business at risk. Undeterred, after the pandemic, Hau entered the realm of e-commerce, continuing to produce and distribute premium coffee while aspiring to establish a chain of coffee shops. His business acumen led to requests for coffee shop advice and invitations to universities, where he inspired students with his story of resilience and entrepreneurial drive.

In early May 2023, Ngồi Cafe donated the entire proceeds from the auction, amounting to nearly $1,275 to support disabled individuals in three provinces: Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, and Binh Phuoc. Inspired by this act of giving, Hau decided to allocate 5% of all future company revenue to support people with disabilities. Though his business is not yet strong, he understands the importance of giving back.

We hope his story serves as an inspiration to all those facing challenges in their own lives.

Thank you, and see you next time!
