Early life

Thích Nhất Hạnh, born on October 11, 1926, in the province of Thua Thien, Vietnam, had a humble and spiritually inclined early life. Born as Nguyen Xuan Bao into a family that followed the Mahayana Buddhist tradition, he displayed a deep interest in Buddhism and spiritual matters from a young age, paving the way for his future as a Buddhist monk and peace activist.

Growing up in a small village, Thích Nhất Hạnh was immersed in the natural beauty of the countryside, which instilled in him a profound appreciation for the interconnectedness of all life. At the age of sixteen, Thích Nhất Hạnh entered the Báo Quốc Temple in Hue, Vietnam, to pursue his spiritual studies. There, under the guidance of Master Thanh Quý Chân Thật, he embarked on the path of a novice monk. Immersed in the teachings of Buddhism, he delved into scriptures, meditation practices, and the ways of monastic life.
