Exploiting Children for Fire Breathing Begging

Welcome to Vietnam Untold.

Today, we would like to shed light on a dark and disturbing truth that has plagued the streets of Ho Chi Minh City. Behind the mesmerizing flames, there lies an unimaginable reality – the exploitation of innocent children for fire breathing begging.

Ho Chi Minh City, a vibrant and bustling metropolis, has sadly become a backdrop for a heart-wrenching spectacle that tears at the very fabric of our humanity. The sight that unfolds before our eyes should never be witnessed – children as young as six years old being forced into the dangerous practice of fire-breathing begging.

If you walk along the famous entertainment streets, such as Bui Vien, Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, and Vinh Khanh, it is difficult to miss these young souls who struggle to make a living by spitting fire from dawn till dusk.

Clad in ragged clothes and wielding flaming torches, they are paraded through the streets, performing risky stunts for the amusement of passersby. However, do not be fooled by this tragic facade; there is a deeper, more sinister truth lurking beneath the surface.

The true culprits behind this inhumane practice are unscrupulous individuals who prey on the vulnerability and desperation of these innocent children. Driven by greed and lacking any shred of empathy, they manipulate and exploit these young souls for their own financial gain. It is a distressing and cruel reality that sees children stripped of their innocence and exposed to grave risks, all for the sake of a few coins.

The physical and psychological toll this exploitation takes on these innocent children is beyond comprehension.

Their young bodies endure burns, injuries, and respiratory problems from constant exposure to fire and smoke.

Medical experts have warned that fire performances can cause severe respiratory damage, especially when the children inhale or accidentally ingest fuels like gasoline or oil during their acts.

But the harm inflicted upon these children extends far beyond the physical realm. They are robbed of their childhood, their education, and their chance for a better future.

Child activists have urged local authorities to proactively survey neighborhoods and communities to identify cases of children engaged in fire-breathing begging. Once identified, the local leadership should provide assistance and collaboration to help these families find sustainable livelihoods.

For orphans and those lacking proper care, it is crucial to provide them with opportunities for education and growth within social centers.

And that is it for today’s episode. Thank you for watching. Remember to stay informed and stay connected with Vietnam Untold.
